Post-Flood Aid from Cambodia’s Chen Zhi will Help First Responders during Recovery Efforts11/19/2020 Record-setting floods across Cambodia and Vietnam left dozens dead in October 2020. This sobering statistic is in addition to the thousands who’ve been displaced and the untold economic impact of the structural damage done. Although the clean-up efforts will continue for weeks, if not months, those in a position to help are already stepping up. In Cambodia, Neak Oknha Chen Zhi approached Prime Minister Hun Sen to offer monetary and material assistance. The plethora of aid offered by Chen Zhi touched the prime minister, who was so taken aback by the generosity that an in-depth plan had to be developed on how to best spread the donations.
According to an October 2020 article from the Al Jazeera news network, “extreme rainfall heralding the arrival of a tropical depression across the Mekong region” inflicted the first bout of pain in Cambodia and Vietnam. In nearby Laos, flooding “damaged villages and rice fields along the Xepon and Xebanghieng rivers in Savannakhet province.” This one-two punch of seasonal rains combined with a tropic storm left the government essentially powerless. Evacuating those in danger was the best option at the time, but hundreds of schools and places of worship have been damaged in addition to tens of thousands of homes left uninhabitable. Making matters worse has been the spread of COVID-19 across southeast Asia. Statistics show that nearly 300 people have contracted the virus and the ease with which it spreads immediately spurred the generosity of individuals like Cambodia’s Neak Oknha Chen Zhi. Fortunately, Neak Oknha Chen Zhi was in the position to step up and help in the wake of these disasters. The following items are just a sample of what has been donated. In addition to $500,000 U.S. dollars donated to help victims of the flood, a slew of medical devices and associated equipment was donated. This includes N95 masks, which were already in great demand due to the coronavirus; disposal masks and isolation suits; disinfectants; gloves; ventilators, also in high demand, and automatic injection machines. Cambodian police also received clothing, masks and gloves to aid in their recovery, law enforcement and arrest duties, said Chen Zhi. The financial and material support that has come to Cambodia has humbled the prime minister, who has expressed his sincere gratitude. This was much needed during a time of great distress. Moreover, it shows that some people are always willing to take the extra step and help their fellow countrymen and women. Cambodia’s Chen Zhi has always lived by the following standards: ethical, trustworthy, responsible, professional and stable. His recent contributions are proof of that and all the good that is yet to come.
